Robert Spielvogel, MS, CIH, CSP
Mr. Robert Spielvogel, MS, CIH, CSP, Principal of Robert Spielvogel and Associates, Inc., has more than 40 years of environmental compliance, industrial hygiene, and safety management experience in the private sector and in government. He has held leadership roles in a Fortune 500 company as Manager of Environmental Compliance and Industrial Hygiene and as the Director of Industrial Hygiene, Occupation Safety, and Training for a national environmental services company. Mr. Spielvogel is also a former OSHA Compliance Officer.
As a corporate environmental health and safety professional, Mr. Spielvogel managed more than 40 OSHA inspections and investigations. He has also participated in numerous USEPA, State Environmental, and other regulatory agency inspections and investigations. While a Compliance Officer with OSHA, Mr. Spielvogel conducted over 100 comprehensive, industrial hygiene and safety inspections and accident investigations. He was the lead investigator on numerous complex inspections, emergency responses, and accident investigations including fatalities and a confined space multiple fatality.
Currently, and for the previous 23 years, Mr. Spielvogel has held an academic appointment at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, in the Environmental and Occupation Medicine and Epidemiology Program, Department of Environmental Health, first as an instructor, and since 2017 as a course director and currently, as a course co-director. Previously, Bob held an academic appointment as an instructor in Boston University’s, Occupational Medicine, Physician Residency program, and Boston University’s, School of Public Health. He has taught at Tufts University, Graduate School of Engineering, and at Northeastern University. He also served as a Physician preceptor while teaching in Boston University’s, Physician Residency program.
Bob was one of five technical reviewers of the National Safety Council’s, Complete Confined Space Handbook authored by John F. Rekus, MS, PE, CIH, CSP.
Mr. Spielvogel is board certified in the comprehensive practice of both Industrial Hygiene and Safety (CIH, CSP) and was a Registered Environmental Manager (REM) from 2000 - 2012, (all by examination). Mr. Spielvogel received a Masters of Science degree in Special Studies (Environmental Studies) from George Washington University, Wash., D.C. and a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health Science from Hunter College, City University of New York.
